About Us | History
In close partnership with parents, we aim to provide a safe, caring environment, where each child's achievements will be valued and rewarded, so that they will happily fulfil our high expectations of them in learning and behaviour.
At Somers Heath Primary School we believe that every child is entitled to a rich and varied curriculum that is challenging and inspiring and will enable every individual to achieve his or her potential in order that he or she can take their place as a valued member of the wider community.
Somers Heath School was built in 1956. Somers Heath
County Primary School was formed in April 1984 by the
amalgamation of the former Infant and Junior Schools.
Classrooms are spacious and each has its own cloakroom area, boys and girls toilets, washbasins and sinks. There are two playgrounds and the school fields, which include a soccer pitch, a concrete cricket strip and a “wildlife area”, which surround the two-storey school building. The Assembly/Dining Hall is well equipped as is the school library.
A nursery class was opened in the Spring of 1996 which admits up to 26 full- time equivalent children.
Disabled toilets and accessibility facilities were added in April 2005 together with a new entrance, office and staffroom.
In 2012 we undertook a major refurbishment of the Nursery and Reception classes. Junior classes received new furniture.
In Sept 2015 the school expanded in size with an extra class being added in Reception and Year 2. An extra Year 3 class
was opened in March 2016 and, in September 2016 our infants moved to a newly refurbised building on our site.
The school has a very stable staff who have created a
positive and welcoming environment.
2016/17 School development
Our school continues to expand in size and nearly all year groups are have two forms.
In March 2017 the new school was complete. We have a new administration block, large staff room, conference room, changing rooms and breakout rooms for small gorup work.
In April 2017 we had our official opening attended by The Mayor of Thurrock, neighbours, friends of the school and many former staff.
On June 1st 2017 we will convert to an academy by joining the Catalyst Trust. This consists of four local schools, two of which are outstanding. We look forward to the next phase of our development with excitement!
